Just watched the movie documentary, Surfwise. It follows the life of Dorian "Doc" Paskowitz, a Stanford grad doctor and renowned surfer who dropped out of the medical profession to search for something bigger in his life. Along with his wife, they went on to raise nine kids on the road, in a camper, searching for waves. The kids never went to school and followed a strict regimented lifestyle with their parents. Everyone speaks out in this movie about how their unique upbringing has impacted their lives.
Words to describe this movie - fascinating, disturbing, funny, sad, and (finally) sweet.
just added it to my Netflix que.

Yeah I wasn't sure what to think of this movie when I first saw it. It's probably worth renting it again for a second look. But I remember feeling fascinated, disturbed, happy, sad and touched, so I'd say your review is spot on!
