Around Iceland - Days 7, 8, & 9
On Day 3, we started out touring some of the "Westfords" of Iceland, and then drove to northern Iceland...
Hiking the trail to the Benefoss waterfalls
Hvitserkur Rock
Kolufoss waterfall in Kolugljufur canyon
Kolugljufur Canyon
Godafoss waterfall
I have so many questions about this. I don't know the reason or significance of having an evil deceased dictator (Qaddafi) on the side of a rental van.
Beautiful views like this around every corner
The beautiful town of Akureyri in northern Iceland
Day 4, we started out in the Lake Myvatn area in northern Iceland and walked around Dimmuborgir, which is a park full of lava pillars.
Looking up at the outside rim of Hverfjall crater - those are people hiking around the rim.
Grjotagja, a small lava cave with a geothermal hot spring inside of it.
Viti Crater - a blue lake inside a volcanic crater
Lake Myvatn
Hiking up to see Hverfjall crater
It was massive, and had another smaller crater inside the larger crater.
Namafjall geothermal area - it reminded me of Yellowstone National Park.
bubbling, boiling mud pots
The rotten smell of sulphur - you never get used to it.
Myvatn Nature Baths - we opted to swim here at this smaller more laid back hot springs instead of the larger more famous Blue Lagoon (located closer to Reykjavik). A nice way to cap off the afternoon.
