St Lucia

My wife Kris and I recently took a trip to St Lucia to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.  It's only the 3rd time in the 18 years since we've had kids, that we've left them for a week.  The other two times we traveled with others, so this was actually the 1st time in 18 years just the two of us took a week away alone.  When you think about it, we've already been on a trip together for 25 years...a crazy fun journey with all kinds of adventures.  We're both just simply grateful for each other, our family, our friends, and our faith.  And yeah...St Lucia was great.  We so needed that time away together.

In the early 90s, Kris used to be a flight attendant and thats when our love for the Caribbean islands began.  Through her flight benefits at that time, we traveled to several islands - Anguilla, St Martin, St Barts, and all of the US & British Virgin Islands multiple times.  St Lucia has been on our bucket list of places to visit for a long time.  We decided to finally make it happen for our 25th anniversary after considering other places.  And we're glad we did.  We were also fortunate that St Lucia was not impacted by the devastating Hurricanes Irma & Maria that mowed over the other islands in the Upper Antilles chain.

St Lucia is a beautiful island with great beaches and real rainforest jungle.  It's also mountainous with very curvy roads.  It took a couple days to get used to the steering wheel and drivers side being on the right hand side of the cars...and driving on the left.  St Lucia is also a volcanic island which is how the mountains were formed.  The most famous landmarks are the Piton mountains....twin peaks on the lower west coast of the island.  Kris and I normally rent a house or villa when we've traveled to the islands in the past but we decided to do something different for our special occasion.  So we stayed at the Sugar Beach Viceroy Resort that sits on a beautiful beach right in between the two Pitons.  It was truly a dream place with lots to do including SUP and great snorkeling at a marine preserve right there at the beach.

We mostly ate at the resort and the food there was very good at the four different onsite restaurants.  We did eat at a few other off site restaurants which were also very good.  They were Boucan by Hotel Chocolat, Mango Tree, Jungle Grill & Bar at Anse Mamin Beach, but the standout was Martha's Tables (it was also the cheapest)...which was only open for lunch.  Amazing fresh local fish and chicken BBQ there!

Following are many pics and a video from our trip....enjoy!

Mac,
No mention of the windsurfing/kiting center. http://slucia.com/windsurf/
Did you visit that?
We stayed there a few years back, living in an old home about a half hour walk from The Reef. No car, and the neighborhood was sketchy, but enjoyed the visit.

Brian, Unfortunately we picked the one week that the center was closed. Bad timing on our part but it was our anniversary week...oh well. And the other nearby resort with windsurfing gear had their watersports center closed too. Had plenty of other stuff to do and we enjoyed the resort and that side of the island a lot.
