Board Testing Is Hard Work...

...and fun!

Good morning from Hatteras Island.

Woke up this morning with a sore body. We sailed for 6 hours straight yesterday in consistent 25mph NE winds...we being the Spring 2010 Windsurfing Magazine board testing crew. I don't think I've ever sailed with a 4.6 for that long. We had about 10 freestyle/wave boards in the 95-105lt range to test and did we ever. We put those boards through its paces and they put us through our paces as well. There are about 10 of us doing the testing...a mix of the locals (Andy, Ann, and Stuart), the inland Charlotte/Greensboro area crew, and a few other out-of-towners. Testing had been taking place for a few days prior to this one and it included testing on 120lt range boards as well. Stay tuned for all the results in an upcoming issue of Windsurfing Magazine...

Stay tuned for a short video but here is a short clip of Stuart flat water looping...

R.I.P. Dave Ballard

We lost a wind brother this week. Dave Ballard, a Charlotte/Lake Norman area windsurfer/kiter, lost a valiant and courageous battle against cancer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Stand Up-dates

Some cool items to share...

Thanks to Distressed Mullet for first posting this. I love this video...it's an ad for Tahoe Stand Up boards that really captures the vibe of stand up paddling on flat water on those beautiful non-windy days and just taking in everything around you.

Also...waterman extraordinairre, Dave Kalama, is finally blogging.

And here is a cool report that recently appeared on Nightline about Kalama and his sidekick and other waterman extraordinairre, Laird Hamilton, taking advantage of the recent Pacific swells...

Father Daughter

Friday night - Father/Daughter Dance at her school

Saturday March Madness - Watching her playoff basketball games - they won the first round game in a close one by 1 point. Lost the second round game in an even closer game...a heartbreaking loss by 1 point.

Sunday - Father/Daughter off to go play - snow skiing at Sugar Mountain.

Exciting finish to the weekend - while on the way home we watched a hot air balloon make a landing.
