Did I Ever Tell You Our Local Crew Rips?

A big missed it for me last Wednesday. It blew warm southwest wind 25-30mph, with much bigger gusts, air temp was low 80s, water temps in low 60s. I had a ton of work going on and family commitments afterwards, so I couldn't even get out late after work. But others in the local crew made it out on Big Wednesday to Ramsey Creek Park at Lake Norman.

All photos below were taken and shared by Donald Obst.

SUP The Coast

SUP The Coast from Wind Powered Productions on Vimeo.

"Starting March 1, 2011, Will and Mike will embark from Key West, Florida and head north to paddle the Eastern seaboard on stand-up paddleboards, finishing in Portland, Maine. We're combining our passions for paddling, people, and the ocean while fulfilling a dream of seeing the East coast from the water. In doing this we hope to spread awareness and raise money for two specific causes which stem from these passions." Those two great causes are Wounded Warrior Project and SUP Clean-Up. Read more at the SUP The Coast web site.

This link provides all the ways to track their progress through their blog, Facebook, Twitter, and an awesome site that tracks their exact progress at any given time via GPS.

Force of Nature

Check out this thermal map of the tsunami wave patterns across the Pacific. You can see the entire trek to Hawaii and California. Makes you wonder what happened to the many tiny islands in the South Pacific.

I'm sure everyone by now has seen the astonishing tsunami footage to come out of Japan. Here is some amazing footage of what it looked like in Crescent City, California.

Here is time lapse video of the tsunami sucking in and out of Crescent City Harbor...watch how the water changes direction back and forth so fast:

Fishermen unfortunately losing their livelihood...these docks and boats don't stand a chance:

Watch how in the span of just 4 minutes how the dry beach changes into a giant sloshing bathtub:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan.

Quick Sesh

It rained all weekend, then ended late Sunday afternoon. Rob and I were waiting for the break in the rain knowing it was windy. We hit the water for about 30 minutes while the wind was good. Very gusty NW wind but glad we got out.
