NoCal Trip Report Part 2 - Lake Tahoe

The view from our rental house in Kings Beach, CA (North Lake Tahoe area)

I rented a mountain bike (check out this sweet Specialized Stumpjumper 29er) and got a shuttle reservation at Flume Trails Bike Shop in Incline Village, NV.  The trail conveniently ends at the bike shop which is next to a nice cafe that serves breakfast, coffee, lunch, and good post ride brews.

These first several pics are of the Tahoe Rim Trail.  The shuttle dropped us off at the Tahoe Meadows trailhead.

The trail terrain was varied.  It had single track, technical rock sections, big climbs, switchbacks, loose and hard packed dirt, and fun downhill sections.

Almost 25 miles.  You can make this ride anything from 14 to 40 miles as there are trails that break off in certain areas.  I stopped a lot to take pics and take a couple breaks.

This was the best trail I've ever ridden.  It had everything including the awesome views.  While there were some challenging climbs, most of it is actually downhill (see the blue elevation/altitude line below).  If you're a mountain biker, put this on your bucket list.

We visited Sand Harbor State Park and went swimming.  We intended to stand up paddle here but there was a little bit of a breeze and the kids just wanted to go swimming.

Emerald Bay (South Lake Tahoe area)

We hiked the Horsetail Falls trail at Pyramid Creek, a beautiful 3 mile roundtrip hike with a great swimming hole.  The swimming hole and the giant waterfall are just inside the Desolation Wilderness Boundary.

We returned to Lake Tahoe and went for another swim at a nice spot blocked from the wind between Sand Harbor State Park and Hidden Beach area.
